If you've tried affiliate marketing for any length of time, you probably have already experienced the sweet reward of that first paycheck.
Do you remember it? Maybe there was only one sale, or maybe there were 20. It doesn't matter because that first affiliate marketing commission check was the one that proved affiliate marketing really does work.
The promise of working once, but being paid several times is the reason many get involved with affiliate marketing. It's one of the few businesses where hardworking people can almost write their own checks.
But working hard is only part of the equation for success in affiliate marketing. You need to work hard doing the right things. In other words, if you want to increase your affiliate marketing commission, you have to work smart.
How do you work smart in affiliate marketing? One way is to learn the difference between pre-selling, and selling. Selling is what the sales page is for. To convince someone to go to that sales page, you must master the art of pre-selling.
Each of us has developed a 'body guard' who stands watch against advertisement as we search for information. Advertisements are everywhere and our body guard helps to block them from our minds. The body guard is the one who blocks your view of the banners and text ads so you can find and read the content of a page. But if the advertisement is blended in with the content, just like it belongs there, it slips right past your body guard and into your conscious mind.
By pre-selling, you are slipping past the body guard and putting the idea the product is based on into your readers mind. You are inciting interest, evoking need, creating curiosity about the product before sending your prospect to the sales page. And you must do it all without looking like your are selling something or the body guard will quietly push you out of the reader's mind.
For example, if you are promoting a website that sells tickets to the circus, your content, webpage, or article could recount memories from your childhood on going to the circus. Talk about what the circus meant to you growing up. The most amazing performers can be found at the circus... etc. etc. etc. Then, woven in to your content like it belongs there, the reader finds your affiliate link to the page selling tickets to the circus. It's almost a no-brainer for him to be interested enough to click it. After all, you awakened his memories, piqued his curiosity, instilled a desire for him to give his children their own memories of the circus. Your ad got past the body guard.
The art of pre-selling creates anticipation and desire for the product you promote so when the reader sees your affiliate link, he thinks to himself, "oh my gosh, I was just thinking 'where can I buy a ticket to the circus', and suddenly there's a link!" Click. You just increased the number of people who click your link. You just increased the probability of increasing your affiliate marketing commission.
