Selling your own product is one way to make money online. Selling someone's else's product is another.
I do both and make money with my own eBook and also with my affiliate sites.
Selling your own product can be very time consuming. You have to write the book, design the graphics, or have them done for you, and do al of the web site work. You also have to get some sort of payment processor and integrate that into your site.
You also have to answer all of your customers' questions, solve all of their download problems, and refund them no matter what the reason.
Working with an affiliate is a lot easier. They already have done all the work for you. They have the product or service and all you have to do is promote it and get paid.
You can set up your own site if you are so inclined or just add a text link or banner to a blog. Putting up one banner on one blog won't make you rich. It may not make you any money at all.
You still need to promote your blog or site. It all comes down to numbers. The more visitors, the more clicks, the more sales.
You also need to find affiliates that are loyal, trustworthy and honest. And, affiliates that have a great profit sharing plan.
Some affiliates pay pennies and some pay big dollars. It depends on the product or service.
You can make 40% - 75% for selling eBooks listed on ClickBank. You can make $30 - $100 promoting credit cards. You can make hundreds of dollars from one person making a deposit to a gambling site. You can make money promoting hotel rooms and airline tickets.
Or, you can do like me and do all of the above.
I promote products or services that are related to web sites that I already have or I create a domain and web site to promote specific products.
I have many sites that are Thailand related. I promote the hotels at all of these sites making me a few hundred dollars per month.
I have 5 gambling domains and my affiliate has ready-made web site templates. I had to make a few small modifications and upload the files and the sites were created. Another few hundred dollars every month.
I originally set up a credit card site to promote an eBook but now use it as a credit card affiliate promoting about 150 different credit cards and free credit reports. More money.
I promote eBooks on my "generic" blogs using a script that automatically links keywords to products. I also have one web site that sells Thailand related books and I promote this on all of my Thailand related sites.
So, there are many different ways to promote affiliate products and you can make real money doing it
